VINCENNES, Ind. (WTWO/WAWV) — A Vincennes city tradition that has taken place for nearly 25 years will continue tonight as city officials prepare for the annual Downtown Vincennes Christmas parade.
The Vincennes Mayor’s Office said the parade will take place at 6:30 p.m. on Friday, starting at 1st and Main Streets and traveling east to 10th and Main Streets,
According to Vincennes City Council member Brian Grove, this year the parade has around 70 participants in the parade line up and the last float is always Santa Claus.
“Line up is at 5:00 p.m. and then the parade will go reverse on Main Street. We do that every year. So we’ll go from West to East,” Grove explained.
The Vincennes Police Department requests that everyone remove their vehicles from the parade route by 5:00 p.m. including the 800 and 900 block of Busseron Street. The VPD also wanted to give a reminder to parade participants to “please turn north onto 10th St at the end of the parade and return to the original zone to let off passengers!”
According to parade organizer Marc McNeece, the parade has been going on for 25 years, but has had 24 years running as the event was canceled in 2020 due to the pandemic.
