VIGO COUNTY, Ind. (WTWO/WAWV) — Vigo County Schools’ Behavioral and Wellness Coordinator was honored as a Youth Worker of the Year.
Dr. Megan Kirk received the Indiana Youth Institute’s “D. Susan Wisely” Youth Worker of the Year Award. Kirk was recognized for spearheading efforts to secure the Project Aware grant funding for mental health services in the schools.
She also participates in the juvenile drug court and probation programs and works to bring in programs that help youth struggling with substance use disorder. Kirk said she’s honored and humbled to be recognized among so many youth-serving professionals in Indiana.
“I think it just validates the work that we’ve been doing in a way that says we’re on the right track and that we need to keep moving forward, that maybe connecting a few more dots and maybe we can get a little further down the road in the right direction for the benefit of our students,” Kirk said.
The award was established in 2014 and honors the legacy of D. Susan Wisely who spearheaded the creation of numerous youth-service programs.
