TERRE HAUTE, Ind. (WTWO/WAWV) — The Veterans Village project received additional support Friday in the form of a $7,000 grant from the Duke Energy Foundation.
Veterans Village is in the process of building six tiny homes at a property on Maple Avenue that will serve as temporary housing for veterans who may be struggling to remain housed.
“Veterans Point, INC., exists to provide those in need, those disadvantaged, those who struggle, those who may be unseen and unheard. In this time of great opportunity to do things in a different and better way, we will listen. We will be a voice when appropriate. We will be an active ally. We will be part of the solution,” reads the Veterans Village mission statement.
On Friday, Duke Energy Government and Community Relations Manager Rick Burger joined the Terre Haute Association of Realtors for a check presentation.
“These men and women have sacrificed so much for our freedoms, and we wanted to give back and help where we can,” co-chair of Veterans Village, and director of the THAAR Board of Directors, Debi Sullivan said. “With the support of community partners like the Duke Energy Foundation, this initiative will help get local, unhoused veterans into transitional housing. Our goal is to help residents integrate back into the workforce and the community and make their lives whole again.”
“Duke Energy is, and always has been, a company focused on giving back to the communities we serve,” Burger said. “As we approach Veterans Day, we’re proud to extend our support to initiatives like the Veterans Village that are paying it forward to those who’ve served our country.”
