VIGO COUNTY, Ind. (WTWO/WAWV) — Family, fellow firefighters, and the community are coming together to celebrate the life of a Prairieton Fire Department firefighter who died unexpectedly last week.
Dave Phelps was a long-time firefighter, having served in the role for nearly 60 years, Phelps died of a heart attack while responding to a fire on Thursday, Nov. 2.
Phelps’ funeral was held at DeBaun Springhill Chapel on Wednesday at 11:30 a.m., and then a procession will head southbound along S.R. 63 to the Prairieton Fire House before continuing on to the New Harmony cemetery.

In addition to the burial, a bell ceremony, last call, flyover, and helmet ceremony are expected to be performed in honor of the lifelong commitment to Phelps’ service.
