TERRE HAUTE, Ind. (WTWO/WAWV) — Local police are stepping up to make sure everyone has a fun and safe ISU homecoming weekend.
THPD Sergeant Justin Sears says the Terre Haute Police Department will be fully staffed and out day and night on patrols.
They also work with the university to make sure there are no holes in their security plan.
Sears also said the agency is well-equipped for the weekend’s festivities.
“Fortunately we’re of a good size agency and we like to think we’re prepared for about anything that can possibly happen here. This is one of the few times of the year that we blocked days off so minus a wedding or something of great magnitude all of our officers are on duty. We put our extra patrols at night well have extra people on the walk. We’ll have specific people watching the parade. Make sure everything is going good there. It’s all hands-on deck,” Sear said.
Sears also suggests making a clear plan on what you’re doing with different events and to drink alcohol in moderation and that if you are planning to drink to also make sure to have a safe plan to get home.
Sears said ISU offers several programs that will shuttle people for safe transportation and some of the Greek organizations provide a Buddy or Safe Walk.
