KNOX COUNTY, Ind. (WTWO/WAWV) — Dozens of K-9 units are in the Wabash Valley this week to undergo some very important training.
The training is a part of a workshop put on by the American Police K-9 Association. The organization is using various venues in Vincennes and Knox County to train K-9s on both patrol work and narcotics detection.
The Knox County Sheriff’s Office is the host agency for this workshop. Master Trainer Simon Gresser with the American Police K-9 Association explains the benefit the workshop has for the K-9 units.
“Dogs that are traveling they get to see different areas so where I’m located up in northwest Indiana, we’re very urban. We’re not used to the rural areas so when going out tracking, it’s a little bit different ground for that,” Gresser explained.
Gresser also noted that there are over 30 dog teams participating in this workshop.
