GREENE COUNTY, Ind. (WTWO/WAWV) — After Greene County Deputies were involved in a shooting incident in which an individual was found dead in a tent by the Bloomington SWAT Team, Greene County Sheriff George Dallaire has requested Indiana State Police detectives to investigate.
According to a press release from Indiana State Police, the incident occurred on July 19 at around 10:00 a.m. on Old Clifty Road in Owensburg, Indiana. Deputies with Greene County and Monroe County were searching the area attempting to locate a suspect that had been involved in a separate shooting incident that took place in the overnight hours near Bloomington.
The deputies were able to locate the suspect’s vehicle on Old Clifty Road near a tent. As the deputies exited their cars, they heard a gunshot from the tent and immediately took cover. A Greene County deputy then fired his department service rifle toward the tent.
The Bloomington Police Department SWAT team was deployed and entered the tent where they found a deceased male. An autopsy has been scheduled for Thursday, July 20.
All the deputies involved in the incident have been placed on administrative leave.
The investigation is active and ongoing and Indiana State Police detectives are leading the investigation. The Monroe County Sheriff’s Department is also investigating the separate shooting incident that took place in Bloomington.
