SULLIVAN COUNTY, Ind. (WTWO/WAWV) — Wednesday evening, the state and federal government recognized local leaders for their efforts in the response and recovery efforts during the March 31 and April 1 tornados.
FEMA presented awards to local leaders for their ability to “answer the call” of the community. Sullivan County EMA Director Jim Pirtle, the City of Sullivan’s Board of Public Works Director JD Wilson, Clint lamb Sullivan’s Mayor, and Holly Bryan the deputy of administration for the Indiana Department of Homeland Security all received awards for their efforts.
FEMA Coordinator Brian Schiller said its important to acknowledge all the work local leaders do.
“Leaders don’t step up in order to get recognized. Leaders lead because it’s what they do. And the four folks that we recognized down here and there’s three other county commissioners that we’re recognizing. Were out there with boots on the ground with their neighbors and their community from the onset,” Schiller said.
Schiller also said he’s excited, to continue to work with the community to build resilience through long term recovery groups.
