VINCENNES, Ind. (WTWO/WAWV) – Update: WIN Energy REMC said as of Monday afternoon, approximately 1,300 customers remain without power. Work to restore power continues with the assistance of multiple other power companies.
Original: WIN Energy released a statement Monday morning regarding the ongoing power outages due to last Thursday’s violent storms that ripped through the region.
“What started with 8,000 members out of power on Thursday, is down to 1,500 outages,” explains WIN Energy COO Leslie M. Beard. “Due to the amount of broken poles, tree damage, and power lines down, restoration is slow. In many areas, we must coordinate with tree crews to get tree damage cleared before we are able to safely restore power. “
WIN officials believe it could be Wednesday before power is restored to most customers in that area.
“Our goal is to get power restored to the largest amount of members as quickly as possible, and hope to restore power to the majority of our members by Wednesday at midnight,” according to Beard.
