TERRE HAUTE, Ind. (WTWO/WAWV) — Update: A West Terre Haute man has been arrested after deputies said he was under the influence while involved in a crash that left a vehicle overturned and one person injured.
According to Vigo County Sheriff John Plasse, the crash occurred in the 4300 block of U.S. 41 South at approximately 1:35 a.m. Tuesday. When deputies arrived on scene they found a black SUV sitting upside down.
The SUV’s driver, a 47-year-old Terre Haute woman, and her passenger were inside the vehicle while it was overturned.
Deputies would then locate a white Cadillac with black paint marks on the side that had pulled into a parking lot just north of the scene of the crash. That Cadillac was driven by Patrick Jarvis, 41, of West Terre Haute.
Deputies said Jarvis was under the influence at the time, and witnesses and the drivers reportedly told them that the Jarvis had crashed into the side of the black SUV causing it to flip onto it’s top.
Jarvis was arrested and charged with operating a vehicle while intoxicated, as well as possession of a controlled substance.
The passenger of the SUV was taken to Regional Hospital for treatment of injuries.
Original: Crews responded to a crash that trapped two people inside a vehicle early Tuesday morning.
According to Vigo County Dispatch, the crash happened in the 4300 block of U.S. 41 around 1:50 a.m.
Dispatch said the vehicle flipped over, causing the driver and passenger to be trapped inside.
One person was taken to the hospital.
