TERRE HAUTE, Ind. (WTWO/WAWV) — In celebration of National Nurses Week, Ivy Tech is recognizing the nurses in the community that help to provide medical care to people in the area.
“Nurses are the heartbeat of our communities, and this week we’re celebrating their dedication and commitment to helping others,” said Kim Cooper, Ivy Tech’s Dean of Nursing.
With decades of experience in educating the workforce’s past, present, and future nurses, the local Terre Haute Ivy Tech has graduated 159 students from the nursing program and has been ranked number one in Indiana for the best associate degree nursing program. According to the Nursing School Almanac, Ivy Tech graduates the most associate-level nurses across the country.
“Ivy Tech’s nursing program is exceptional,” said Cooper. “Our graduates are highly sought after for their skills and knowledge and are prepared to enter the workforce with a competitive advantage.”
Ivy Tech provides various routes for those interested in pursuing a nursing career. Through Ivy Tech’s programs, students are able to earn a Pre-Nursing certificate, a Practical Nursing technical certificate, or an Associate of Science in Nursing.
Now thanks to the Next Level Jobs grant, students can get their Practical Nursing certificate tuition-free. After successfully completing the Practical Nursing program, students will be eligible to apply for the NCLEX-PN licensure exam, which is the exam taken to be certified as a Licensed Practical Nurse (LPN).
Graduates who pass the NCLEX-PN exam can then start their nursing career, or continue on to the LPN to ASN Transitional Track course of study.
