TERRE HAUTE, Ind. (WTWO/WAWV) — Leaders in business, academics, and government learned more Thursday about how a local college is preparing future engineers.
Indiana Governor Eric Holcomb’s Workforce Cabinet met at Rose-Hulman. The cabinet was hosted by Rose-Hulman President Robert Coons who is also a member of the cabinet.
Coons was able to share Thursday how Rose-Hulman is producing engineers for Indiana employers.
“I was appointed to the Governor’s Workforce Cabinet last year, representing higher education, and it was a nice opportunity for us to highlight the programs that Rose-Hulman has and how we’re supplying STEM graduates to the state and to the nation,” says Coons.
The cabinet’s goal is to optimize Indiana’s workforce system for Hoosier employers and individuals, with the hope that people will choose to work in Indiana after completing their education.
Cabinet Chairman Ryan Kitchell says workplace learning opportunities, internships, and apprenticeships can help accomplish that.
“If somebody has an internship experience that’s quality in Indiana, they’re much more likely to stay in Indiana, and that’s what we want,” says Kitchell.
The cabinet was created in 2017.
