TERRE HAUTE, Ind. (WTWO/WAWV) – Police are investigating after a body that may be linked to a missing person’s case was found.
According to Terre Haute Police Chief Shawn Keen, on March 31st at 4:48 p.m., Teresa Joy was reported as a missing person from Southwood Healthcare Center on East Margaret Drive.
An employee from the center had informed an officer that Joy left the night before at 8:30 p.m.
The employee told the officer that it was not unusual for her to leave, but she would occasionally forget to sign out.
On April 17th at 9:19 a.m., Keen said a crew hired to cut grass at 1600 Lockport Road reported finding what they believed to be a body.
Keen said officers arrived and located what appeared to be a female body in “an advance state of decomposition.”
An initial autopsy showed no signs of obvious homicide, but other testing is pending the coroner’s review.
Keen said what has been observed suggests a strong connection between Joy’s case and the body found at Lockport Road.
He said because of the advanced state of composition, a DNA test is required to confirm the identity.
