TERRE HAUTE, Ind. (WTWO/WAWV) — Art Spaces Inc. is holding its annual luncheon with this year’s event featuring speaker, and author of Black in Indiana, Eunice Trotter.
Art Spaces Inc. is welcoming residents to gather with friends, family, coworkers, and other community members for their annual luncheon. The event will be held from 12:00 p.m. to 1:30 p.m. on Thursday, April 20 at the Country Club of Terre Haute.
According to Art Spaces Inc., with ancestry being traced back to Black Indiana pioneers in the 1790s, Trotter lived in Indiana and went to public schools in Indianapolis, and earned multiple degrees in journalism and an MBA while working through college.
Trotter started working at The Indianapolis Recorder throughout high school and “in 1987 she purchased a controlling interest of that newspaper,” which The Indianapolis Recorder is one of the oldest African American newspapers in the United States.
Trotter was also The Indianapolis Star’s first African American editor. She has held editing or reporting positions at many other newspapers around the country including The New York Post, Florida Today, the Palm Beach Post, the Lafayette Journal, and Courier. Trotter has been recognized with several writing and reporting awards and was inducted into the Indiana Journalism Hall of Fame in 2017. Currently, Trotter is the director of Indiana Landmark’s Black Heritage Preservation Program.
Trotter’s first book, Black In Indiana was recently published and earned a first-place award from the Indiana Press Women’s Club and won first place in the National Federation of Press Women’s Competition.
