TERRE HAUTE, Ind. (WTWO/WAWV) — Local high school students around the Wabash Valley got to explore one of their college options Friday as a part of “Go Ivy Day.”
“Go Ivy Day” happens twice a year and took place Friday at the Terre Haute and Greencastle campuses.
“[It’s] to check out our academic programs, to learn more about scholarships and financial aid, and to really get that first step of getting enrolled,” Leah Allman, Vice Chancellor of Enrollment Services, said.
Allman said they were expecting about 350 students to come to the Terre Haute campus and learn about Ivy Tech.
She said their enrollment has grown, and they’re hoping to continue that trend this upcoming year.
Allman explained she thinks it’s important for students to know they have options after graduating high school outside of starting at a four-year university.
“We have a toolbox. So students can begin in skills training, they can move into short-term training, they can get one of our short-term credentials along with moving right into an Associates Degree that can either put them right to work or transfer them to Indiana State or another public institution,” Allman said.
She said there are multiple ways you can jumpstart your education at Ivy Tech, even if you missed out on “Go Ivy Day.”
“The important piece that I think our high school students need to know is that Ivy Tech is offering free college this summer. Any high school student who wants to explore classes, maybe work toward a credential, maybe get a jump start on their education here at Ivy Tech or at another institution,” Allman said.
Allman said if a high school student is interested in taking free classes at Ivy Tech this summer, it’s best to reach out to your guidance counselor to get the process started.
