VINCENNES, Ind. (WTWO/WAWV) — Black Hoosiers who made an impact on the state’s history are being celebrated with a new exhibit at a local museum.
The Red Skelton Museum of American Comedy in Vincennes is honoring Black History Month starting with an exhibit that honors Black entertainers who performed with Red Skelton.
After that, the Indiana Historical Society delivered an exhibit titled Groundbreaking Black Hoosiers that features several people who made an impact on Indiana history.
“Sometimes if you are a museum, you get caught up focusing on the person your museum represents without realizing all the ties and all the connections within that museum and by being able to pull out the black entertainers that Red performed with and then also focusing on other Groundbreaking Black Hoosiers we’re really able to kind of extend the reach,” Anne Pratt said, Director of the Red Skelton Museum of American Comedy.
On Sunday, March 5, the museum will honor Groundbreaking Black Citizens from Knox County.
