JASONVILLE, Ind. (WTWO/WAWV) — Indiana Department of Transportation recently announced that a section of State Road 48 near Jasonville will be closed due to a months-long infrastructure repair project.
The project will focus on two areas of State Road 48 that need repair and construction is expected to start on or around March 9 lasting until early June. According to a press release from the Indiana Department of Transportation, the weather may also impact the timeline of the project.
The two areas of the road in need of repairs are about a mile and a half from one another.
“There’s one location that’s 1.16 miles east of State Road 59 and the other one is basically 2.5 miles east of State Road 59, so it’s all kind of all the same area,” explained Gary Brian, Indiana Department of Transportation media contact.
With the repairs happening so close to State Road 59, the official detour route for the duration of the closing runs through a portion of that road. The detour goes from State Road 59 to State Road 54, to State Road 67, and then to State Road 157.
The nature of the needed repairs requires time, with one of the two locations in need of repair estimating a 70-day construction plan and the second location 25, the two projects will take several months to complete.
“Basically, it’s two small structure replacements, and when we say small structures it’s usually like a culvert underneath the roadway. I believe there’s a stream or something in that area so that’s why it’s a full closure because we have to actually get under the road,” Brian said.
