TERRE HAUTE, Ind. (WTWO/WAWV) — High school students will be able to participate in dual enrollment thanks to a new partnership between the Vigo County School Corporation and Ivy Tech Community College.
Through the new dual credit program, Vigo County students will have the opportunity to take classes that count toward high school graduation and college credits. The students will visit Terre Haute’s Ivy Tech campus to attend classes and participate in the program.
An early version of the program was launched in June of 2022 in which 20 students were invited to tour the campus, experience college courses, and explore some of their career options.
“We want them to know there are many different fields they can go into,” explained Lisa Jeffers, Ivy Tech’s Assistant Professor of Academic Skills, “We hope they will be better equipped to make educated choices about their future.”
The partnership between Ivy Tech and VCSC aims to help students find their passions, get early experience with higher education, and ease the transition from high school to college courses.
While the dual enrollment program is available for high school students to earn college credit on Ivy tech’s campus, Ivy Tech also offers a dual-credit program that will allow students to earn Ivy Tech college credits. The dual-credit and dual enrollment programs are both available to high schoolers.
The dual-credit courses are free for high school students and can possibly give them the opportunity to earn an Ivy Tech certificate or credential before they graduate from high school. The dual-credit program is available to any Wabash Valley high school student in Indiana.
