DANVILLE, Ill. (WCIA) — The Danville Police Department announced on Monday that a 3-year-old girl’s death is now being investigated as a homicide. This announcement comes just hours after the Vermilion County Coroner released the girl’s name.
Kanari Miller died Friday morning at OSF Sacred Heart Medical Center after her family said she fell down a flight of stairs. But Danville Police officials said the injuries she sustained would not have occurred as a result of such an accident.
An autopsy conducted by Coroner Jane McFadden determined that Miller died from “multiple blunt injuries due to child abuse.” Further details about Miller’s injuries are being withheld to protect the investigation’s integrity.
Danville Police and the Vermilion County Coroner’s Office are still investigating this incident. The Illinois State Police have also become involved.
Anyone who can provide information about what happened is asked to call Danville Police at 217-431-2250 or Vermilion County Crime Stoppers at 217-446-8477.
