SULLIVAN COUNTY, Ind. (WTWO/WAWV) – The new cryptocurrency mining facility is a short time away from powering up in Sullivan County.
As we’ve previously reported, the facility will be next to the Merom Generating Station, and is financed by Ketucky-based crypto pioneers “About Bit”.
The company teamed up with Hoosier Energy and Win Energy and say the facility will bring more jobs to the county.
Wade Lewis, COO of About Bit, said they have the location secured and the main office up and running.
“We are starting to install the containerized solutions that we use for mining cryptocurrencies and the heavy wiring that connects those to the power supply lines is being put in as we speak,” Lewis said.
Lewis said as of right now, they are working right on schedule and should be powering up the first units in the latter part of January 2023.
“We will continue to bring units online. When we set up that facility, we pre-wire each one of the foundations so to speak for each unit that goes in there. think of it as you will as a campground with RV’s, things can go in and make their hookups,” Lewis said.
He explained this upcoming winter storm could cause delays, but they will have to wait and see.
Officials say the facility will create 15 new jobs and have the potential for more in the future.
