TERRE HAUTE, Ind. (WTWO/WAWV) — Wednesday, the Wabash Valley Jeep Junkies presented over ten thousand dollars to the Terre Haute police department.
The money is going towards their memorial fund which just started this time last year.
The 10-thousand five hundred dollars was raised by the Jeep Junkies during their “Run to Remember” event that was back in September. The funds will go towards the upkeep of the statues and monuments of the memorial. Chief Shawn Keen says he’s very grateful for the community’s generosity.
“It says a lot about our community because you don’t always have that everyplace and for us to be able to do this just based on, you know, their generosity is just amazing to me, “ said chief Keen. “So, this whole thing has been made possible by donations from this community. It’s not taxpayers’ money that paid for any of these statues or any of these monuments here. That’s all been donations. And we’re very thankful for that for our community and having this place to recognize all these first responders is just great.”
“Our group is very community-minded, we try to do a lot of things to help out the community and this was just one of those instances where we talked about it, but it was time to actually do something,” said the president of Wabash Valley Jeep Junkies, Mike Latta.
“Every single penny we raise goes straight to the memorial funds so it’s going to help those officers and the mission that they have. “
Beyond the memorial, the fund also goes to send the THPD honor guard to funerals for fallen officers in various communities.
