FARMERSBURG, Ind. (WTWO/WAWV)– 21 vintage log cabins were on display on Saturday, as a part of the final “Summer at the Village,” event hosted by the Fowler Village Folk.
The community held events like this on the third Saturday of every month this summer. Members put on demonstrations and crafts.
Communications Director Amber Kerr said the event is a window into the past.
“Our cabins are a great asset. All cabins were original cabins that were taken apart and moved here from all around, they are all from Indiana,” she said. “We have 21 cabins, so they are all set up like they would have been as a homestead back in the 1840’s.”
She said her favorite part of the events is teaching people about the history of the state.
“I love to watch people enjoy the village and learn, and see the kids learn what things were like,” Kerr said. “We tell them, ‘Maybe we had a family of eight people who all lived in one house,’ they slept on the floor, they slept on the loft because that was the warmest place.”
Kerr said children are especially excited when touring the cabins.
“The kids just light up learning the things, and seeing how basic things were,” she said. “They didn’t have fancy things, they didn’t have electricity and things like that, that we’re used to now.”
Kerr said the Fowler Village Folk are preparing for their 50th annual “Pioneer Day,” event, which will take place on October 1st and 2nd.
