TERRE HAUTE, Ind. (WTWO/WAWV) — The summer concert season will kick off Saturday with the Flo Rida concert at The Mill in Terre Haute.
As residents prepare for upcoming shows it’s good to know what is allowed to be brought into the venue and what is prohibited.
The Mill says that while service animals are always welcome, some items aren’t allowed beyond the obvious illegal items.
With the exception of those with VIP Pit tickets, concert goers will be allowed to bring in folding chairs, but you must remove the carrying bag that the chair usually comes with. Blankets are also permitted for lawn seating.
Purses and backpacks are prohibited as well, however, attendees can use a small wristlet/wallet or a clear 12″ x 6″ x 12″ bag to store personal items and money
The owner of The Mill, Kelly Drake, says that the reasons for any prohibitions regarding items allowed in are for safety and security. She added the “Chair bag” and purses not being allowed can help cut down on items being snuck into the venue.
Other prohibited items include:
- Coolers
- Outside food and beverages
- Umbrellas
- Professional Cameras
- Signs or Banners
- Pets
Drake says that they follow the Americans with Disabilities Act guidelines when it comes to service animals.
The Mill’s policy, consistent with ADA’s revised guidelines, defines “service animal” as limited to a dog that is individually trained to do work or perform tasks for an individual with a disability. The task(s) performed by the dog must be directly related to the individual’s disability. The Mill requires, consistent with the ADA, that service animals must be harnessed, leashed, or tethered, unless these devices interfere with the service animal’s work or the individual’s disability prevents him or her from using these devices. Individuals who cannot use such devices must maintain control of the animal through voice, signal, or other effective methods.

Drake said the venue has made several changes over the past few month, including some to better follow ADA guidelines.
“We’re coming into year two at eleven shows. Then obviously building our new stagetop is a huge step for us, and putting in some concrete walkways and improving our grounds,” she said. “We call it phase two, so every year we have improvements that we’re gonna make
The mill also restricts the concealment and carry of guns on the premises. Those who arrive with their weapon should follow all applicable laws regarding securing the weapon in their vehicle. The venue will not secure weapons and will not be liable for weapons left in vehicles.

Drake said she feels much better heading into year two with some experience under her belt.
“Our team here feels much more confident in just running the day of the show, making sure guests are happy, making sure the artists and their crew is happy, as well as our stage crew that is putting up all that equipment. We feel much more smooth when it comes to that day of operation [preparation,]” Drake said.
