TERRE HAUTE, Ind. (WTWO/WAWV) — A Terre Haute man has been charged with multiple offenses following a car crash involving the Long John Silver’s location on Wabash Avenue.
The crash occurred at approximately 11:14 a.m. Sunday according to the Terre Haute Police Department crash report.
Police say that Nathan Shelton, 27, was driving a Chevrolet Malibu southbound on North 21st Street and failed to stop at a stop sign at the intersection with Wabash Avenue.
Witnesses told police that Shelton narrowly missed hitting a second vehicle when he crossed Wabash Avenue before crashing into the north side of the Long John Silver’s property. The crash caused significant damage to the drive-through menu and some damage to the front of the building. Two witnesses said that they saw Shelton flee from the vehicle following the crash.
Police reported finding an ID card belonging to Shelton in the vehicle and were able to locate him nearby.
Shelton was taken to Union hospital for treatment of his injuries, before being taken into custody.
Shelton was charged with Operating a motor vehicle without ever having obtained a license and leaving the scene of a crash among other charges.
