TERRE HAUTE, Ind. (WTWO/WAWV) — A familiar branch will be making its way to the 12 Points area sometime this year.
The Vigo County Public Library will be opening a third branch located on North 13th Street. It will be in a building formally known as the old Thomas Funeral Home. The purchase on the building is still pending and officials hope to close on the property by the end of April.
Estimated cost for the project is over one million dollars and will be funded by the library’s traditional tax supported budget. No additional referendum or bonds will be needed because the library has been preparing for the project for over a year.
Executive director Kristi Howe stated that it’s an exciting opportunity to expand to other neighborhoods.
“Our mission here is not just to provide access to resources or materials. But it’s really to provide the services that people need to advance their own lives,” Howe said.
Howe also said once the property is purchased they will have a discussion about the services that the branch will provide.
