TERRE HAUTE, Ind. (WTWO/WAWV) — Starting in the fall, the Indiana State University’s Sustainable Cities Program will begin working in partnership with the city of Marshall, Illinois to develop and implement community-driven projects.
The program uses the resources available at ISU through students, staff, and faculty to partner with a community to establish projects that promote sustainable development. ISU faculty opt-in to the program each year.
We are really excited about our partnership with the city of Marshall. Marshall is a vibrant community that will be a great host for our Sustainable Cities student projects. I am also pleased to be able to partner with a community that so many of our students and employees call home.

Rogers says that the program works with community members to determine what projects should be implemented during the year-long partnership.
“This is a great program for making Marshall better,” said Marshall Mayor John Hasten. “Because if you’re not moving forward, you are falling behind.”
ISU has been working similarly with the city of Sullivan Indiana for the past two years. During that partnership, 21 projects have been completed. Projects Included strategic community marketing initiatives with the downtown business association, neighborhood revitalization analyses and economic plans, neighborhood development plans, and downtown gym and youth sports complex master plan concepts.
