TERRE HAUTE, Ind. (WTWO/WAWV) – A home on North 13th 1/2 St. in Terre Haute suffered significant damage after a fire on Monday afternoon.
Officials were called to the scene just after 5:30 p.m. Scott Dalton, battalion chief for the Terre Haute Fire Dept. said when firefighters arrived, there was heavy fire coming from the front of the house.
There were no reports of anybody being in the home at the time, but three cats were reported missing.
Two cats were found alive, and officials are still searching for the third.
“As always, we try to encourage people to make sure you have smoke detectors, make sure you change the batteries. We just changed the clocks with the time change; that’s when we encourage people to put new batteries in their smoke detectors. We also encourage people to sleep with their doors closed,” said Dalton.
The cause of the fire is currently under investigation.
