TERRE HAUTE, Ind. (WTWO/WAWV) — A new exhibit exploring the Wabash Valley’s history with crime will open on Friday in the Special Exhibit Gallery at the Vigo County History Center in Terre Haute, Ind.
The display will feature the history behind Terre Haute’s label as a “Sin City” and take visitors through the history of the Red Light District, designated on the city’s West Side. The exhibit, according to a news release, will cover “the story of crime, corruption and reform in the Wabash Valley”.
Following the exhibit’s opening, the center will host a presentation and book signing by county historian and author Tim Crumrin. This presentation is set to begin at 2 p.m. on Saturday in the auditorium of the History Center at 929 Wabash Ave.
During the event, Crumrin will provide a discussion on his research and writings of Terre Haute’s past. His newest publication, “Terre Haute’s Notorious Red Light District”, is scheduled to be released in February.
Crumrin retired as Historian and Director of Conner Prairie Museum in 2014. Following retirement, he was awarded the Eli Lilly Lifetime Achievement in Indiana History Award.
Museum employees said they are proud to share this special guest and opportunity with visitors to the History Center for the price of admission or free to members. Further information on this event, museum membership and more can be found here or by calling (812) 235-9717.
