TERRE HAUTE, Ind. (WTWO/WAWV) — In preparation for severe weather, Duke Energy will have extra employees on standby in case of power outages.
Those include call center operators, line workers and contractors.
District Manager, Rick Burger said residents should call in if a powerline is down and treated as if it were active.
He adds while meetings about Friday’s severe weather have been ongoing, the company has stayed ahead of maintenance work to allow them to be efficient.
“We have been very aggressive on tree trimming and we’ve seen that payback to keep customer’s lights on. We’re going to continue that and keep these right of ways open,” He added.
Vigo County Highway Department employees are on call if needed, according to Highway Director Larry Robbins.
Trucks and spreaders specializing in storm removal are prepared if called into action.
Although trees don’t typically fall in this weather, Robbins says residents should be aware of high-powered winds.
“If you see debris or a tree limb across the road or something, do us a favor, call it in. Call 911, Dispatch will alert us and we’ll be able to go out there and take care of it. Don’t take for granted someone has called it in, just go ahead and call it in yourself,” Robbins added.
