TERRE HAUTE, Ind. (WTWO/WAWV) — The Vigo County Sheriff’s Office announced Monday it has launched an investigation into the death of a recently arrested inmate inside Vigo County Jail in Terre Haute.
According to a news release from Sheriff John Plasse, officers arrested William Myles, 36, around 7 p.m. Tuesday, Nov. 23 for driving while intoxicated following a two-vehicle crash on East US Highway 40. Myles was taken to Vigo County Jail and was booked for the night.
Around 3:15 p.m. the next day, Wednesday Nov. 24, Plasse said Myles suffered an apparent seizure while speaking with jail medical staff. EMS workers were called immediately while jail medical staff did CPR on Myles, but it was determined he had no pulse.
Myles was then taken to Union Hospital where he subsequently died, Plasse said.
The Vigo County Sheriff’s Office has now begun an investigation “into the circumstances of Myles’ arrest illness and death that remains incomplete currently,” according to the release.
