TERRE HAUTE, Ind. (WTWO/WAWV) — The United Way of the Wabash Valley announced on Tuesday that its annual “Power of the Purse” event will be held virtually again this year.
The online auction will raise money to support early childhood education programs throughout the valley. There are 14 total purse packages available for bidding this year.
Participants can also just donate $5 without bidding to purchase a five pack of books for a kindergartner as part of the “Real Men Read” program. Another available option is to donate $100, which would be used to purchase books for an entire classroom.
The overall goal of the event, United Way Marketing and Communications Director Abby Desboro said, is to ensure local children are well prepared for school and for life.
“This fundraiser is a way to get more people involved in early childhood education and make them aware of all the different ways United Way is touching children’s lives,” Desboro said.
