TERRE HAUTE, Ind. (WTWO/WAWV) — The Vigo County Health Department hosted a COVID-19 vaccination Q&A session Wednesday afternoon at the MCL Bakery in Terre Haute, Ind.
Health Educator Ashlee Stewart said that these sessions are a way to keep the public educated on the vaccine, and gives the public an opportunity to ask questions about the vaccine.
“They have lots of questions and we have lots of answers,” Stewart said. “We vaccine people a week later because they wanted the vaccine after they were educated about it.”
These Q&A sessions, and the health department’s mobile vaccine clinics, are two ways the health department gets out into the community to either educate or vaccinate. Vigo County is currently sitting at a 47% vaccination rate, and Stewart said that these Q&A sessions are encouraging people to go and get vaccinated.
“We may not be getting hundreds of people to come to get vaccinated, but if we get five people vaccinated because of a Q&A session, that’s success in my eyes,” Stewart explained.
Edward Burt attended the Q&A session and said that the he’s grateful for the health department’s efforts to educate the public on the vaccine.
“There’s so much negativity going on with what we see on social media,” Burt said. “Having the health department come out and give us the true facts and the actual numbers is very important.”
Vaccinations at the health department must be made by appointment. However, appointments are not required for its mobile clinics.
