MARSHALL, Ill. (WTWO/WAWV) — The Gaslight Art Colony will host a new exhibition starting Saturday, Oct. 16 featuring the work of artist Scott Payne.
Payne is a self-taught painter from Australia who typically portrays mystical landscapes and creatures. An artist reception with Payne will happen from 5 p.m. to 8 p.m. CST on the day of the opening.
The artist lists Russian Impressionists Denys Gorodnychyi, Andrey Selenin and Vitaly Makarov as inspirations, as well as abstract expressionists and local artists.
“Art is probably the only real magic, it has the ability to transcend, to communicate and to heal,” Payne said in a news release. “It’s pure.”
The art work will remain in the gallery until Nov. 13. Regular business hours for the colony are 10 a.m. to 1 p.m. on Tuesdays, 10 a.m. to 4:30 p.m. on Thursdays and 10 a.m. to 1 p.m. on Saturdays.
