TERRE HAUTE, Ind. (WTWO/WAWV) — As part of national museum day Saturday, the Candles Holocaust Museum and Education Center offered free admission.
Museum Day is a national initiative organized by the Smithsonian Magazine with a theme of “Experience America”.
This specific day was created to encourage everyone to go out and explore after spending so much time in the house over the last year.
New exhibits have made their way to the museum as well allowing guests to learn even more about the history of the Holocaust and the world.
The museum believes history is important not only for adults but for children who may have never heard of this significant period as well.
“One of the things that makes CANDLES Museum so special is we are the only holocaust museum in Indiana, so we feel like regionally our message is really important,” Gwen Montgomery, visitor experience coordinator for CANDLES, said. “It’s really connected to Terre Haute.”
On Sunday, CANDLES will offer a special speaker via Zoom who will speak on the technology and history behind the Holocaust. Information for this speaker and how to watch can be found on the CANDLES website.
