TERRE HAUTE, Ind. (WTWO/WAWV) — The man charged in the shooting death of a Terre Haute Police detective appeared in court, in-person, for the first time in the case.
Shane Meehan is accused of killing Det. Greg Ferency on July 7th.
Meehan was led into the federal courthouse in Terre Haute by United States Marshalls as Terre Haute police officers and members of the public sat in observance.
He is being charged with premeditated murder of a federal agent in connection to the shooting death of Det. Greg Ferency outside the FBI Indianapolis Resident Agency in Terre Haute.
No pleas was provided during the hearing but the defense did announce in court that Meehan has a history of various illnesses.
This hearing was a continuation of an earlier hearing conducted in July at Regional Hospital. He was being treated after being shot during an exchange of gunfire with authorities. That hearing was pushed back to due to Meehan’s pain medication and physical discomfort.
If convicted of the charges, he could receive life imprisonment. Meehan will remain in custody until his next court date.
