TERRE HAUTE, Ind. (WTWO/WAWV) — What originally started as the “Day of Action” has now morphed into “Serve the Valley”.
Different groups were stationed in various locations around the Wabash Valley for service projects. Maryland Community Church and the United Way of the Wabash Valley along with hundreds of volunteers. Landscaping at the Wabash Activity Center which serves the older adults in the community.
“Everybody’s going to love it. It just look so pretty out there and everybody will make a comment and it just makes them feel, it makes them feel real good,” executive director for the Wabash Activity Center Michelle Inman said. “It’s great to be able to partner with everybody in the community.”
At Fairbanks Park, volunteers beautified the “Born Learning Trail” a feature at the park created to appeal to kids who enjoy outdoor activities.
“United Way loves to bring people together to solve problems and so what better way than to bring volunteers from across all the counties that we represent, that we serve to take care of jobs that sometimes that organization don’t have time to do,” community impact staffer with United Way of Wabash Valley, Dorothy Chambers said.
Two organizations are leading the two-day event but agrees that they wouldn’t be able to make such a difference without volunteers.
“Volunteering for projects like this throughout our six counties is one of the best ways to make significant impact and we couldn’t do it without the volunteers who come out and do this every year,” community impact director for United Way of the Wabash Valley Mark Johnson said.
