The BCB, along with director Matthew Huber, took a trip to New York City in 2004 and performed on Ellis Island. While in the big city, band members visited famous tourist attractions and attended many Broadway musicals, Huber said.
Band participants saw “Chicago” starring Page Davis and will perform “Selections From Chicago” with “And All That Jazz”, “Cell Block Tango”, “Roxie” and “We Both Reached For The Gun” on Sunday. Additionally, Frank Erickson has arranged “Richard Rogers: A Symphonic Portrait,” including several hit Broadway favorites by the legendary composer, for the performance next weekend.
Other songs that will be performed by the BCB include hits from “Gershwin” such as “Rhapsody In Blue”, “Strike Up The Band”, “Embraceable You” and “I Got Rhythm”. Additionally, from “The Phantom Of The Opera”, the band will perform “Think Of Me”, “Angel Of Music” and “The Music Of The Night” in Warren Barker’s arrangement for band.
John Philip Sousa and his band were based in New York City during 2004, and during the BCB’s trip to New York the marches “Manhattan Beach” and the “New York Hippodrome” were showcased on Ellis Island.
On Sunday, the BCB will also perform “Theme From New York, New York”, arranged by Frank Cofield and “Old New York Medley”, arranged by Paul Yoder which features “While Strolling Thru The Park”, “Bicycle Built For Two” and “The Bowery”.
