CLAY COUNTY, Ind. (WTWO/WAWV) — This summer, one local organization will be trying to raise $30,000 to help kids living in Vigo and Clay County.
Starting in June is the Y.M.C.A.’s Be A Change Maker 4 Kids campaign. This summer long campaign aims to support programs hosted by the Y, including after school activities, summer camp, or help reduce monthly membership costs for kids.
“I think the one thing we saw a lot due to COVID-19 is the need for effective care programs for kids. As parents and essential employees are working, we want offer our services to their children or even to senior citizens,” Ryan Penrod, C.E.O. Y.M.C.A. of the Wabash Valley, said.
For every two dollars donated, one dollar will be matched by the Wabash Valley Community Foundation. If the goal is met, $20,000 will go towards Clay County’s facility and $10,000 towards Vigo County.
“At the Y.M.C.A., we don’t want to turn a child away. Last year, due to COVID, it made us restrict how many kids we can serve or people we can serve because lack of funding. Now, when people donate to this campaign, we’re providing more opportunities for more kids that need these programs and services,” Penrod added.
Donations will be accepted until September 30th with multiple time donations being accepted.
Below are examples of how donations can help.
- $25 provides afterschool care for one child for one week.
- $50 provides four weeks of swimming lessons for one child.
- $100 provides a week of summer day camp fun for one child.
