TERRE HAUTE, Ind. (WTWO/WAWV) — Visitors poured into the Wabash Valley Fairgrounds to grab a piece of history at the Mari Hulman George Estate auction.
According to Hulman estate representative Bill Metzger, at least 1,500 visitors attended the auction over the weekend, with many people coming each day of the auction.
Metzger said the connection between the Hulman family and the City of Terre Haute is of great importance.
“The people of Terre Haute have been coming out and strong and buying a lot of things which is what we want to do,” Metzger said. “We wanted to have the chance for people of Terre Haute to come and own a piece of history. They’ve been enjoying that and finding a lot of treasures, packed away.”
Different items like a sterling silver dog and “Clabber Girl” advertisements were of high interest. Metzger said he has enjoyed hearing all the stories behind some of the more rare items and seeing the excitement on auction goers faces.
