TERRE HAUTE, Ind. (WTWO/WAWV) — Hugs, smiles, laughs and tears filled the Hulman Center as friends, family and the community celebrated the life of Don Morris and Cheryl Hart.
Patrick Chaney, a life-long friend of Don, said once Don and Cheryl met, they became inseparable.
“Whether Cheryl wanted to run a marathon or whether Don was going to play out of town in another state, Cheryl was there to support him and Don was there to support her,” Chaney said. “Truly it was just a beautiful love story.”
Chaney said the loss of his friend will not only affect those who were close to him but also the community.
“I’ll remember what a great husband and father he was,” Chaney said. “What kind of energy he put into the community and what a loss it is for Terre Haute.”
Chaney also said Cheryl was the highlight of Don’s life and she made everyone she came in contact with feel right at home.
“She came up with Don to see when our son was born and it was like she had known me and my wife forever,” Chaney said. “What I remember is that she just, she was so loving that just blanketed everything.”
As different guests walked on stage to help paint the story of Don and Cheryl lives, it was said by many that they could always depend on the couple for anything.
“When something needed to be done, either one of them would come forward and help,” Chaney said. “I think that’s what we all need to remember in particular about Don and Cheryl in this community.”
