GREENE CO., Ind. (WTWO/WAWV) — The Greene County community will come together to honor the life of Madi Moore, the 17-year-old from Linton died almost two years ago from graft vs. host disease after beating cancer.
Her family plans to commemorate her life and the life of others who have died from terminal illnesses during ‘Madi’s Day of Hope’. Tera Orman, Madi’s mother said it’ll help them raise money for Madi’s Hope Foundation, foundation started by her family that helps sick children in need.
“We’re ready to get back in our community and start helping more families in Madi’s honor. There are so many kids that are in need,” she explained. “Despite what happened with COVID-19, there’s still a need. There are still needs that are there. It was sad to not be able to help those that needed help.”
The community event will take place on June 5 at Humphreys Park in Linton from 9 a.m. until 7 p.m. There will be a bone marrow transplant match station, which is needed to treat leukemia, a blood drive, games and music.
Orman said even though Madi’s no longer here she’s happy to know her daughter continues to make an impact.
“I want to continue to get out there and just make all of her dreams come true. I want to help other kids because there are still mothers, fathers and families out there that are struggling with sick children and situations that are hard. If we could just bring a smile to their face for one moment, maybe we could help ease a little bit of that burden,” she said.
Orman never imagined she’d lose her child after 17 years, but she said her proudest moment is witnessing her daughter be a blessing to others.
“When I lost her it was just so easy to lay down and die. I didn’t think I was going to make it. I often hear her voice saying ‘mom just keep pushing. You got to help others. You got to keep going.’ So I want to do the best I can to make her proud. I want her voice to continue on.”
