TERRE HAUTE, Ind. (WTWO/WAWV) — Already the 12 Points Revitalization effort has raised closed to $35,000 in a fundraising campaign.
The campaign first launched nearly a month ago, giving just 45 days for the community to help raise a total of $50,000. To donate, click the link here.
The Indiana Housing and Community Development Authority’s Creating Places Program will match an additional $50,000 if the goal is met.
The community has until June 7th to raise funds and receive that matching grant. Recent fundraising efforts like a pop up vendor’s market on May 12th, marking the first of the 12th at 12 Points events; meat raffles through Kroc’s Butcher Shop, selling $5 tickets for over $500 worth of meat and pizza kit sales helped raise money.
Mark Baker with the revitalization effort says it was no surprise to see the community’s contribution so far.
“There’s so many people who have wanted to see good things happen here that we knew going into the actual fundraising campaign opening, that everybody was behind this and so with a slow start we got a little nervous, but we knew so many people wanted it to happen that now it’s just caught fire again and everybody’s behind it.”
The money raised will add a ‘Welcome to Historic 12 Points’ gateway sign and bike racks will be placed in the neighborhood.
It will also contribute to adding a string lights across the street from Lafayette to Linden. Plus, free WiFi will be made available in Gold Medal Park.
