TERRE HAUTE, Ind. (WTWO/WAWV) –The Vigo County Salvation Army will start offering a monthly food distribution for families looking to cook.
Caseworker Jaylee Lawson says feedback from families reflected a need for home cooked meals.
The food distribution will offer fresh produce when available, recipes and even some cooking classes.
It will start September 8 and be held the second Tuesday of each month. It’s available for all Vigo County residents, but only 75 bags of food will be handed out each month for now.
“Not a lot of people know the skill of cooking, or maybe they just don’t know what to do with what they have, so we thought we would bag stuff together and make a food drive of meals, so we’re going to do monthly meals, this month is Shepherd’s pie, easy recipe and we’ve included a recipe card and everything you need in the bag,” Lawson said.
If you are interested in participating, you can reach Jaylee at the Salvation Army. That number is 812-232-4081.
