SULLIVAN COUNTY, Ind. (WTWO/WAWV) — An arrest has been made following the death of an inmate at the Wabash Valley Correctional Facility.
Derek Romano, age 29, of Indianapolis, Indiana, who was already serving a prison sentence at facility for murder, was arrested by Indiana State Police on a charge of May murder for the death of Jeremiah Roberts.
Roberts, 32, of Nacogdoches, Texas, was found unresponsive in his cell May 3. He died before reaching the local hospital via ambulance.
Romano was charged with murder.
A second murder is still under investigation at the facility.
Kevin J. Carpenter, 57, was found unresponsive by correctional facility staff at 5:40 a.m. Sunday.
