TERRE HAUTE, Ind. (WTWO/WAWV) — The remains of a fallen soldier from Terre Haute will return home Saturday.
Sgt. Christopher Curry, a 23-year-old Terre Haute native, was supporting Operation Inherent Resolve in Erbil, Iraq when he died in what officials from the Department of Defense called “a non-combat-related incident.”
Curry was assigned to 3rd Battalion, 21st Infantry Regiment, 1st Stryker Brigade Combat Team, 25th Infantry Division, Fort Wainwright, Alaska.
Curry’s remains will arrive at the Indianapolis Airport at around 11:30 a.m. Saturday. Indiana State Police and the American Legion Post 2 Patriot Guard will escort his remains from Indy to Terre Haute, according to Randy Dryer of the Patriot Guard.
They are expected to arrive at I-70 and US 41 in Terre Haute around 1 p.m.
Terre Haute Police, along with the Patriot Guard will then lead a procession north on 3rd Street/US 41, turning east onto Wabash Avenue and then proceed to South 25th Street, turning south into Callahan Hughes Funeral Home.
Dryer said members of the community are encouraged to line 3rd Street and Wabash Avenue to pay their respects to the fallen soldier.
