LINTON, Ind. (WTWO/WAWV) — The Linton Freedom Festival, scheduled for June 29 – July 4, 2020 has been cancelled.
The Linton-Stockton Chamber of Commerce and the Linton Freedom Festival Taskforce posted a press release on the Linton-Stockton Chamber of Commerce Facebook page. Read the press release here.
Officials say the decision to cancel Indiana’s largest Independence Day parade did not come lightly, but with the uncertainty of COVID-19 and potential changes to the Indiana Back on Track phases, they felt they had a responsibility in keeping the community safe.
Officials also say that they rely solely on the sponsorship of local businesses to make the parade financially possible. They say they did not ask for funds this year considering COVID-19’s impact on businesses and that the number of Greene County positive cases of COVID-19 continue to rise.
The chamber says the Linton Freedom Festival will continue in full force for 2021.
