TERRE HAUTE, Ind. (WTWO/WAWV) — A former Rosedale Elementary teacher allegedly bought presents including shoes, clothes and Juul pods for a Riverton Parke High School student during what authorities believe was a months-long relationship.
Court records revealed new details in the case against 35-year-old Gina Richey who was arrested Wednesday on charges of child seduction.
According to the probable cause affidavit, the sexual relationship between Richey and a high school student in the Southwest Parke Community School Corporation began in April, just before the student’s 17th birthday; however, Richey had known the student for several years prior and was a family friend.
While both were affiliated with a school corporation in Parke County, authorities allege all inappropriate conduct between the two occurred at Richey’s home in Terre Haute, making it a Vigo County case.
Once the investigation began, Richey resigned from her teaching position and hired attorney Joe Etling. A preschool aid in the district was fired for knowing about the relationship and failing to report it.
Those close to the case revealed to authorities possible other inappropriate interactions between Richey and students such as “being too friendly with members of the student body,” and “participating in social media bullying.”
Richey turned herself in on a Vigo County warrant. She posted the $25,000 cash bond and was released later that day.
She was scheduled for a first appearance in court Thursday morning.
WTWO/WAWV will update this story as more information becomes available.
