The Polar Plunge is Special Olympics Indiana’s signature fundraising event. It will be returning to Terre Haute for the fourth year on Saturday, Feb. 11, 2012.
- The Polar Plunge invites Hoosier residents to be “Freezin’ for a Reason” and raises money and awareness for Special Olympics Indiana as people jump into icy cold water at one of 11 sites throughout the state during the month of February. In 2011, the Polar Plunge featured 1,857 Plungers and raised more than $370,000.
- To Plunge, participants must raise a “bear” minimum of $75. Students may Plunge for $50 with a valid student ID. All proceeds from this event benefit Special Olympics Indiana athletes in the community, giving them the means to train locally and compete at the state-level in a variety of Olympic-type sports.
- For the $75 fee, participants receive a long-sleeve T-shirt and can also earn additional incentive prizes at designated fundraising levels.
- Visit www.soindiana.org to register. Registration is also available at Indiana State University’s Hulman Center South Entrance (200 North 8th Street, Terre Haute) starting at 8:15 a.m., on Feb. 11. The Terre Haute Polar Plunge will begin at 9:30 a.m., at Hulman Center on the Plaza.
- Following the Plunge, participants and spectators are invited to attend the After Splash Bash at the Hulman Center Concourse for the awards presentation, food and entertainment. Prizes are awarded in a variety of categories including Best Costume, Most Money Raised by an Individual and Most Money Raised by a Team.
