Selena Gomez recently made a trip to Nepal as part of her role as an ambassador for UNICEF. She met with child survivors of exploitation and abuse, an experience she calls “devastating and heartbreaking, but also incredibly inspiring.”
Selena is quoted on the organization’s U.K. website as saying, “At first when you witness children living in extreme poverty you wonder how it is possible that they can be deprived of their basic human needs and rights. Then you talk to these children and you see hope, promise and a bright future.”
During her stay in Nepal, Selena visited a school supported by UNICEF. She also spent time with health volunteers and members of the Paralegal Committee and the Gender-Based Violence Watch Group, which mediates cases of conflict, divorce, domestic violence, child abuse and other issues.
UNICEF has posted photos of Selena in Nepal on its U.K. website.
