The Vigo County Council last night decided just what to do about some missing money.
The Indiana’s State Board of Accounts told Vigo County earlier this year that there was a more than $26,000 difference between their cash records and the county’s bank account.
Solving the issue was left up to the commissioners and council.
Audits show that no money was actually taken but bookkeeping errors meant that the county lost track of where it was at.
Because it was misplaced the county lost out on over $7,000 in interest.
Last night the council decided that Dave Crockett, who was the county treasurer at the time the bookkeeping error, was discovered, he would have to pay that lost interest to the county.
The employee who was responsible for making the error has already been terminated.
